Alley Cat  Hours:  Open 24 hours a day.  Located at Memorial Pavilion parking lot.

Recycle materials from the housing areas are picked up on Mondays. Items too large to fit inside should be placed next to container.

The Rock Island Arsenal Recycle Program exists to provide home and office pickup of recyclable materials for RIA, as well as pick up points for the surrounding communities, in a fast and economical manner

The primary mission and goal of the Rock Island Arsenal Recycle Program is summarized as follows:

  • To protect the environment and conserve natural resources my maximizing the diversion of materials from the waste stream and increasing awareness of the benefits of recycling.

  • To save Appropriated Funds by greatly reducing the amount of solid waste being transported to local landfills.

  • To generate Non-Appropriated Fund revenue through the sale of recyclable materials and to return that revenue to the community for use in Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs.

  • To operate the program in the most efficient manner possible to ensure the maximum profit is returned to the installation.

What Happens to Recycled Products? 

Paper Products can be turned into building insulation, animal bedding, magazine paper, and newspaper.

Computer Paper can be turned into tissue and toweling.

Office Paper can be recycled into paper towels, tissue, napkins, and writing paper.

Metal cans can be made into rebar and angle iron.

Plastics can be used for many items such as clothing, carpet, bottles, toys and bags.
